Faustino
Martelli was born
in Rome, Italy, in 1957. He received the laurea degree in physics (cum
laude)
from the University of Rome, in 1981 and the Doktor der
Naturwissenschaft
(Ph.D.) from the Technical University of Munich (TUM), Germany, in 1985.
From
April 1982 to September 1985 he has been research assistant at TUM.
From
October 1985 until December 2000 he was with Fondazione Ugo Bordoni in
Rome,
Italy. In January 2001 was among the promoters of Opto Speed Italia
s.r.l.
where he worked until June 2002. Since September 2002 is with the TASC
Laboratory of INFM in Trieste, Italy. In 1988 he was visiting scientist
at the
Ecole Politechnique Fédérale, Lausanne, Switzerland.
His
previous scientific interests included two-dimensional electron gases
in Si; alloying
and disorder effects in III-V semiconductors; the growth of quantum
well and
quantum dot structures by molecular beam epitaxy and the study of their
optical
and structural properties; four-wave mixing in semiconductor optical
amplifiers
for wavelength conversion in optical transmission systems. His present
research
is on semiconductor nanowires (III-V and II-VI) as well as on diluted III-As nitrides.
He has
been work-package leader in the European project “ATLAS”
(IST-1999-10626) within
the V European research program and has been active in the European
project
COST 267. He published some 120 papers in international scientific
journals and
conferences proceedings.
